Here they come. Ringing the doorbell, stopping you at the Sam’s, slipped onto your desk by co-workers. Yes, it’s that time again and Juliette Gordon Low, I am mad at you!
It was February and I wanted to be a Scruffy Badger Scout like all the cool kids- I bought the pattern and the polka dotted (ok, sort of polka dotted) fabric for my uniform and I was really liking my dress- until YOU meddling kids showed up with your smiles promising girly empowerment, but really just masking caloric intake! Shame on you! Now my NL 6000 is bursting at the seams and my breath smells of shame and thin mints! Oh, how evil you little moppets are! I’ve paid $3.50 a box to send you to sleepaway camp and now I can’t afford my much needed trip to a fat camp for me! I’m three more boxes away from looking like the First Lady- and I don’t mean the one who loves Jason Wu!?
I chose View A and I really enjoyed making the pleats- can you see them around the peanut butter patties? That by the way is my new nickname for my hips. I had to alter the pattern to my usual 18ish. Hey New Look? Where are the patterns for the dainty plussers?
Don’t make me put these cookies down and fire off an angry letter- cuz I just might!! Ok, maybe I’ll just finish this sleeve of thin mints first- I don’t want them to dry out. Or be eaten by the camera man. That would suck, too.
This is lined in an ivory batiste and I didn’t take into account that it might take up some of my ease space- yup, thats what happened, it’s that darned thick, thick batiste taking up all my oxygen room!
‘She looked like she had been poured into her clothes and had forgotten to say ‘when’ – P G Wodehouse. I think that about sums it up. I think I will put my little frock in the closet until the weather warms up and I am out of cookies!! I do love this look, I know I will wear it to death later in the year after I perhaps burn off a couple of hundred samoas walking the puffy-pups.
Aw, Juliette, I can’t stay mad at you- you’re just too cuddly! *Unsubstantiated Bonus Jules GL trivia: Samoas, the best cookie by far was named after Jule’s South Pacific Islander love toy Fetu- her first viewing of the prototype cookie made her weep and exclaim, ‘The rich caramel color, it is so like my Fetu…..so yummy…..’.. *

I love it! Especially the fabulous neo-atomic pink print.
I think it’s very linoleum-esque!
You are so cute! I think the dress is quite lovely, and the colors are perfect for you. Definitely a keeper.
Oh, thank you! Have a cookie!
You look so cheeky and self-satisfied in your candy dress eating delicious naughties!! I wish to be you!
You only need a compliant husband and some short-limbed dogs!
Oooo… I already have a compliant husband but I’m a cat person.
I just have to add my approval to all the rest. You look fantastic, definetly an outfit you should wear. I will add I like your hair too
I think you look fabulous!
My Mother tells me I wear too much brown- maybe pink is the new brown…..
yes, I think so. At least pinks with a “peach” tint to it.
You look great! I hope you wear it loads as it really suits you.
I promise to wear hosiery with it- the glare was fierce off my pins!!
I looked through all your photos and didn’t even see the cookie boxes…what a great dress and color on you !!!! Girl Scouts and Brownies are evil selling their wares during Lent….they will surely go to Hell.
It’s a dirty racket, those childrens organizations!
Hahahaha. I, and apparently doggie, are unable to resist those cookies either. I have a box of mint chocolate on the go!
But, your dress!! My goodness, it’s lovely. Polka dots in the print and that style, your waist looks teeny tiny. This really is a very elegant looking dress, it really demands tea in proper china to go along with your cookies. Well done and good choice!
I think that is the best picture of the Liesl that the husband has taken- I think she made the post!
What a stunning dress! You look great!
Oh, shucks! Thank you!
You look fabulous in this dress!
sweet!
The dress turned out great and I LOVE it on you! I can’t even tell it is too snug- I mean you ARE able to sit down!
-Laurie
In a very ladylike pose, too!
Sassy! I bet you wiggle when you walk in this.
Thats just for the boys by the watercooloer!
You crack me up! I really like how this turned out for you, perhaps you just aren’t used to wearing stuff that is nicely fitted? And I know from experience that Spanx will help cover a multitude of tiny minty-flavored sins (or in my case, a lot of large round pizza-flavored sins).
I think my final try-on a few days ago startled me! I sucked in so hard I almost broke a rib….
Anne – that dress is BEAUTIFUL. Looks stunning on you. It looks so good that if I thought that it would look even passable on me I would rush out and buy it – but alas – I don’t think it would suit me. LOVE it on you. Great fabric too. Very nice indeed.
Do you suffer from Sheath phobia too? Where is our telethon???
I love to read your blog. This post didn’t fail me, I was laughing so hard I snorted my chocolate peanut butter Haagen Dazs. Your dress is adorable.
I like to know that other people are snacking while they read me! It’s homey and comforting- the universal snack bar!
Gorgeous dress! Love the bag, too. Thanks for making me smile first thing Sunday morning – no mean feat!
Glad I could help- the photo shoot was fun- ‘Just see if the box will prop there on your head..’ was actually voiced at one point.
Now I have stopped laughing… Wow! This style really suits you! You look fabulous. I say make it in stretch fabric, ponti or something. You look fabulous, this design is perfection on you.
Actually now I think of it … make it in stretch jungle print…
I’m trying to get out of my tunic rut while still avoiding pants!
Fantastic dress and even better when you added the Girl Scout cookie p*rn! As my daughter says, “Pink is your friend!” Lovely!
You daughter is sooo right!
Oh my! This is a great post! As well as a great dress. I follow your blog regularly, but never commented as usually when I get here everything is already said. This time I don´t mind I have to thank you for a good laugh with your story.
You look so elegant in your new dress
Oh, I’m so glad you are here! Thank you so much!
And don’t you know those sneaky scouts were lurking outside the fabric store today too! I must be in the high rent district – our Girl Scouts are charging $4.00 a box. But your dress – it’s gorgeous! I love the print and you look great in it. Hmmm, maybe Girl Scout cookies so a body good!
$4!! Well, I am in the south- it’s always a little slower here…
Love this, I’m sure anything you were hiding was far worse in your head than it actually looked. And I LOVE the Wodehouse quote. Going to have to use it. The pink, atomic print looks fab as do the pleats. Mmmmm mint thins….also….one last thing, how come your Girl Scout cookies only $3.50? My local Donald Trump protégée’s charged me $4 a box to feed my addiction. I’m obviously a captive market.
‘Welcome to South Carolina, where the girls and the thin mints are kinda ‘ cheap’….rejected state motto 2011.
That colour is amazing on you! Love it!
I used to work at the headquarters for Girl Guides of Canada – just imagine a box of cookies at every meeting ever! (and a wall of super-creepy guide historical guiding dolls in the conference room – just weird!)
Oh, now that is a picture! Heehee
I have been reading your blog for the better part of a year, and I think that is the best thing you’ve made so far. You look great in it.
Oh, wow! Thank you so much!
So adorable! That darn batiste; it is definitely to blame…not the cookies! I ate ho-made chocolate chip cookies for breakfast…and lunch today. They weren’t GS cookies, but they were still delish.
Did I mention it was the fleece-lined batiste? A Hancock fabric special. heehee
I love this dress. If you can eat all those cookies and look that good, well, where are the girl guides in my town?!
Dots are very slimming- ever see a chubby cheetah?
But I love it! I reckon it looks fantastic – especially in that print! NL6000 is still on my to-sew list, but you may have just moved it up a notch or two. If I don’t eat any girl guide cookies, that is. (My daughter IS a girl guide…and does sell them….)
How do you avoid just writing a check and keeping the surplus?
Hidden between the black-and-whites is a lovely pastel dress. Just Lovely!!
er, did you buy a whole, freakin’ carton? Sheesh!
Shh- it’s a prop…I swear!!
You totally rock that dress! I admit, I don’t buy thin mints anymore, they’re just not as good as they used to be…instead I track down the mint fudge creme oreos which taste like the original Thin Mints, yum!
Oh, now that is a very good idea!
That dress is fantastic!
Love the print and the cut even more than I love girl scout cookies!!
I’m lucky I haven’t once seen someone selling them in the 11 years I have been here in Oz…but sometimes I do miss them.
Cheers,
Laura
I will eat one for you…ok, two….
‘Pretty in pink’.
You look fabulous Anne. Great choice.
oooh, I coo and preen!
What a beautiful dress. I love the pleating on the sides. SUPER flattering on you! And once again, thanks to you, I’ve worn off all my extra Samoa calories laughing at your post.
Beth
If i smooth out the pleats it forms a whimsical gut hammock- got to watch that!
Those damn things are evil! Right to my belly and hips. The dress is so pretty on you, lovely color.
Its just evil business, ut so tasty!
Those cookies just look divine and I can so relate to eating them before they go stale… what a waste and crime that would be. Hubby made a cake when we were in cyclone lock down and we ate the whole thing that day… there was no way I was letting cyclone rusty have his way with it or let it go stale… little Zoe enjoyed a slice of it as well… although only a tiny one as I was too darn selfish to share a whole piece of it. Oh by the way I love your dress too LOL… seriously though your dress is gorgeous on you and the fabric is just as yummy as those cookies look too
Potential Disaster Desserts rule! I will build a cookie fortress- with a creme brulee moat of coutrse!
I like this so much on you! And It doesn’t look too tight at all, just fitted and curvy in a good way!
I’ve very nearly finished my NL6000, I’m late to the party too… But loving the pattern!
Good, if we arrive at the party together, we’ll look cool!
Good thing my four boxes don’t arrive for another two weeks and I got my 6000 done before it all went to hell. Maybe I should finish my other fitted sewalong dresses and get those documented too, and save all these nice stretchy knit projects in my queue for after Thin Mint-ageddon.
Seriously, Anne, this is the most beautiful dress on you. Pink should definitely be your new brown. I LOVE how flattering the A version is. I steered clear of it because I didn’t think it would work (plus I’m hopeless at pleats), but you are the perfect model/enabler for it. You look awesome!!
And I am still peeing over your peanut butter patties, and Fetu.
Im hoping the Low familys legal counsel doesnt leave a comment over it!
Thin mint-agedon! I just love that! Seriously, the pleats were fun, of course, I had the babygate up so that no feline assistance helped my marking….
Lovely dress and lovely spring weather colour. Psst .. You could give the cookies away …
Honestly, the husband and I just didnt consult on the shopping properly!
That’s a great print! and a great blog post! Love the puppy and those cookies
Maybe you should force the camera man to eat a few. Anytime I feel like there’s a little extra “water” weight, I leave all the snack food in plain site of my husband’s computer. It magically disappears and the problem is solved =D sewingforme.wordpress.com
That is inspired!!!
You have Girl Scout cookies? I’ve never actually had one. I’m afraid that if I did, I’d have to join some sort of twelve-step.
In any event, your dress is adorable, breathing room or no.
Thin mints are the primrose path to never wearing a swimsuit again! Stay cookie pure- I live as testimony!
Gorgeous cookie eaten dress! The color looks great on you too!
Thank you ever so much- I think a dress has been christened!
Fun fact: I have never tried cigarettes or Girl Scout cookies…ever. Still no desire for cigarettes but I’d break your arm for a cookie!
Gorgeous dress! That print is so lovely. I am truly coveting.
And yes, batiste is a really thick lining. Practically terry cloth!
Ive never smoked either- it gets in the way of my cookies!
Hilhairious. I love it. And you in that colour. I don’t care about the lack of breathing space – bastiste you can go to hell. And can I have a cookie?
Please, take a box…but not the samoas!
Loving your dress and your ‘sort of polka dotted’ fabric. This pattern is in my ever growing stash (it just recently popped in). Your version is inspiring.
Thank you! I now think that everyone should have it! The Badger is wise!
I love it- that color is perfection on you. AND you quoted PG Wodehouse. Marry me?
Heehee!
You look like one classy broad in that dress.
Mother will be so proud!
I love this dress, it’s super flattering on you! Perfect for enjoying girl scout cookies. I feel you on the “peanut butter patty” hips, my husband was out of town when my cookies arrived and I polished off a box of tagalongs and samoas all on my own. Damn them and their two cookie portion sizes!
I swear those cookies are soo good and there really arent many in each box…..
Ok, how did you grade it up to an 18ish? I’m really struggling, but I think I’ll just sew everything but the pleated area and then pleat it to fit. Hope it works!
I really lucked out- i really only added to the front piece – my butt is a bit flat!
So. Freaking. Rad. You are all kinds of awesome clothes in all kinds of sassiness accompanies by puppies of all kinds of radness. Those pleats are fierce!
My hips doth like the extra pleatage!!
Oh wow this is gorgeous. Just lovely and the colours are perfect. I love this and really really hope you do wear this A LOT.
I just know i will- it calls out from the closet!
You’re adorable you know that?! Your dress matches your hair, your dog and your cheeky smile perfectly. Your blog always cheers me up! x
Liesl is adorable, isnt she? She just made the post and of course, she got the cookie!
I love this dress and I love the fabric you’ve used. Please wear it a lot with red shoes.
I think it’s a moral imperative!
Dress is absolutely beautiful … love those pleats… looks great on you!! That is the dress you must wear to the Mad Men season opener party…details to follow!! Also, compliments to the photographer…just a great all around post.
He’s handy isn’t he?
Thin mint cookies…my fav, cold from the frig. Your frock is so pretty! Love your dots and the colors are perfect for you.
Thank you so much! I’m off to chill my cookies!
Lovely pink dress and I’ve always been intrigued by Girl Scout Cookies. How did that start? I was a Girl Guide and we didn’t do anything like that, we were too busy tying knots and square lashing bits of wood together!
Any way I’m sure you’re right and its the thick batiste making the dress a leetle too snug!
Anne, it’s gorgeous!
How deliciously funny. Your puppy needs another cookie.
I am pretty sure you said when at the right spot, the dress looks awesome on you.
Love the dress…and second you on the perils of GS cookies! Enjoy them…then take the doggies on extra walks
Beautiful!
Absolutely gorgeous! Great fabric choice, the colours look amazing on you, the silhouette is divine on you, and thus the combination is spectactular. Love it!
We don’t get American Girl Guide cookies over here, but an American friend was posted some as a care package and she kindly shared them. Samoas are yum. I don’t blame you for indulging. It’s winter. Embrace the cookies.
Absolutely brilliant, you never fail to make me laugh! That is a lovely dress and you look gorgeous!
I saw this sew-along was going on but didn’t really see the appeal of this particular pattern – until now! It looks fabulous on you.
Cookies or not, you look absolutely fabulous! If this was in a magazine I’d clip it for my stash
Love the print, love the coloring – dress, purse, your hair and all, love the silhouette and pleats.
Just wanted to let you know that I’d like to nominate you for some awards: , the One Lovely Blog Award, The Premio Award (for those who comment on other blogs) and the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. I hope that’s ok, and I’ll put it in a post soon!
Aw shucks, little me?
Well I think the colour, style and all look soooooo pretty on you! Sorry late commenting, have had distractions taking me away from technology. But, is this beautiful dress good to ‘ know you’ve got’? With the empowering girls’ treats and their effects being temporary you’ve got a delight waiting for you. LOVE IT! And your write up, of course
i am loving, absolutely obsessed with, those colors and that print on you. amazing choices here.
You and your dress look fantastic!!! The side gathering is a gorgeous design feature. I’m wading through my share of GS cookies too…mmmm
Hahaha love it!! Those cookies look yummy – who could resist? ^_^ Love the dress!! The colour on you is fabulous!
Okay, that is my favorite thing you have ever made and worn. It’s SO perfect for you! The fit, the color, the style of dress…amazing. And, that fabric print is to DIE for! I would make anything with that fabric…a skirt, an apron, pajamas, kitchen curtains…you name it.
Now I wish I had a caramel delight.
Forget GS cookies – this cookie of a dress has empowered you. Go, Pink!
You wear that dress and the Girl Scout cookies beautifully! And your hair does look gorgeous. I’ve got a color appointment in a couple of days, and you’ve convinced me to go vibrant.
I wear a lot of brown, too. The pink is soooo cute on you. But it ain’t polka dot in my book!
You are so funny! You are so talented! I love that dress ! You look happy and pretty.
Oh you are sweet!
Very stylish – mad men thing going on with this little number, great retroesque fabric. Mercifully we dont have GS cookies over here, sounds like a lethal combination, small sweet things selling small sweet things – whoever thought this up is a genius!
This is GORGEOUS! I love it and you look hot!
How? How do you make eating cookies glamorous! I’m usually covered in crumbs with chocolate smears around my mouth. Or I would be if I ever ate cookies. Or chocolate. Which obviously I dont………
Oh my gosh, I love this post. Are you sure it’s too tight? Because it looks great in photos. And I work in an elementary school. Those damn girl scouts get me every year. EVERY year.
