I read once that Cheetah in the old Tarzan movies was actually wearing little furry briefs to maintian the decency codes. That trivia just popped into my head…I know not why.

I think with the right styling, I could be the ‘Toasty Space Hosty of Galactar 9′ and charm the disposable crew members in episodes 3-7, Season 1. I need black boots and a raygun. Lands, how many times have I said that when getting dressed?!

So conlusion of my Strawberry-scented saga:

It’s Cozy, it’s cute and I like it.It does have a collar that can’t seem to decide what it wants to be when it grows up, but how many of us can?  I think that Simplicity had ‘dress’ in mind, but I don’t see myself in a big staticy pink bear dress anytime soon. I loped off 5 Lotso’ inches and called it a day. No other major changes, just some tapering of the waist- cuz I thought it would be neat to have one in this. Dream a little dream, Anne!

Lovely weather we are having- I know the love seat will regret the puffy-pups joining me for the backyard photo shoot!

So here’s my question- anyone out there purposely using the back sides of fabric because it’s just more fun? I’m thinking of using the front as my contrast on whatever this fabric says it wants to be.

It’s not a whole heap different- maybe no one will notice- or maybe they will think that I didn’t notice. Hmm….Will the fabric police come for me? Is there any technical reason not to? Is it forbidden, like the Lambada?  

 So come on all of you educated Sewists- is there REALLY a right side and a wrong side if their is no nap? Can the wrong side be the right side?

No, I’m not Prince!

I just realized I have unintentionally created a Lots o’ Hugs the Bear costume! I was picturing sort of frisky retro space advisor when I saw the pattern- but somehow that didn’t discourage me. Because I saw what Montanachic did with it as a blouse- I felt the familiar covetous sensations!

I had a lovely piece of a non-stretch mauvey/pinky veloury Deanna fabric that seemed like a worthy sacrifice.  My machine was even happy with my idea. It sewed thru the fabric like it was really pleased with it.

I got tghe shoulder seams and the side seams basted and headed to the bathroom for a try- on with the big mirror.

 Got to wax my eyebrows this weekend- I’m looking like Ned Beatty…..stay tuned- the next post will either have lovely completed pics of me wearing it, or the Dachshunds new velour bedding!

Maybe it’s just my mood today, but I’m sort of liking this odd, textural H.R.Puffenstuff pilgrim shoe odyssey:

 There are some really swell takeaways from this collection, but it feels overwhelmed- like they limited his runway time so they just kept putting more on each model.

I’d like at least 5 yards of each fabric, tho. Can I have it?

Is this a purse or Harry Potters Tome of mythical Beasts?  

One more for the Olsen twins- they like to be bundled up. Hopefully they can commission it in all black.

Last evening at the BAFTA’s the Swinton landed and we have a picture:

This is Celine and I have to say- she nailed it. A perfect dress for her form- not too overwhelming- oh, what am I saying? How could mere fabric overwhelm the Swinton?

I’ve been so impressed with my fellow sewists and their devotion to repurposing fabrics. Being a shallow girl like I, I feel sort of guilty about my hoardish fabric buying tendencies. So I have been trying to use all my excess productively and of course,  being a selfish thing, I like it to be about me.

So in that vein I bring you- Simplicity 1978- a pattern selected wholefully on the basis of it being exactly the yardage I had left from the radiation batik frock. As an aside, I do kind of wonder why this pattern has no reviews on Pattern Review- usually thats a bad sign of the pattern making or of my taste- we’ll see what you think.

This was a quicklie- no brainer from the Simplicity Sew Simple line. Whoo-hoo! it was under $1. Gotta love a cheap pattern! Some of this line are a little twee and I think this one was headed in that direction, but I sternly told it that I was too mature for such.  Such being: the  only part I wasn’t so wild about-  the lacing- it just didn’t feel right with the fabric print- as usual I have a lot of print going on to add too much extra! I settled for 3 little brass heart charms.

Psst! Act natural – there’s a giant copper bass behind you! This is little Me’s version of an action shot.  I’m in front of the police station downtown (our hamlet closes completely on weekends) I can’t explain the fish- you’d just have to live here.

This will be added to the Disney World tops for this trip- only 14 days until I leave for the mouse! Thank Goodness- it was flippin’ cold out there!

My ta-da moment: Look at this tiny pile of scraps- not even enough to get the cats attention.  Maybe I need a festive head wrap from the rest? Maybe a hanky for waving at my swains? Ok, I’ll just put it in the ‘E gads! What happened here? If only I had a fat quarters worth of excess material to repair this’ box in the closet. Years from now the poor nieces and nephews left to hack their way thru my home looking for all of the cats will shake their heads at said box and mutter about ‘foolish aunts who never throw anything away in this crazy firetrap of a house’.  

Yay me! Now I’ve cleared an inch of space in the hoarders Closet of Shame, do I get a shopping reward?

I believe in my heart that this mythical beast exists and I anxiously await each sighting. Perhaps you are unfamiliar with the Tilda. She is chameleon-like and best recognized for her bright, cropped plumage and tendency toward quirky designers and strange household shenanigans. Rumor has it she wore all of her own clothing for the Narnia movies- she just happened to be riding in her cut-glass sleigh on the first day of filming- a happy coincidence!

 My most recent spottings have been award show related- like this Lanvin dress at the SAG Awards:

Now this earlier appearance at the Golden  Globe awards was much more fabulous. I love this Haider Aikerman and I was disappointed to see that she eluded capture by all but the most attentive photographers. villagers I tell you- she is elusive!

I was hoping to see her next public landing at the Oscars this month, but cruelly she was not nominated. I fear she will not gird her loins in expensive camouflage and alight at the Dorothy Chandler pavillion….sigh.

Never fear! She will be back- perhaps if we hide in the bushes in Nairn and use our Swinton calls:

“Tiny Indie film! Tiny indie film!” she will appear and grace us with her intense majesty.

Style.com says ’slim silhouettes and graphic embellishments dominating’ is the rule of this collection. I’m almost willing to go on a harsh diet to wear some of these. Ok, I am actually eating cookies out of my desk drawer at this moment, but the feeling is still there.

I love the metallic mosaic work on these. It’s minimalist but still heavilly detailed- not heavy handed, tho.

 Almost an old-school video-game feel, but not silly, playful.

At last a designer with sleek, non-crazeball styling on the catwalk! Hurray! I’m not even scared of these women!  This one is a little stiff perhaps- but I think it’s the elfish model- she is not dominating her ensemble!  

OOH- me likee.

The husband and I will be returning to our special happy place at the end of the month so the wardrobe scramble is on. I’d love to pack mostly me-made things and I’ve been working on tops and a few frocks for evenings. We’re staying off-site (gasp!) We’ve never done such- I will miss the bubble of Disney being over us the entire trip, but it may afford shorter walks to dinner allowing Little ME to spruce up for dinner a bit more. I’m usually capris, sneakers and fun top girl, but I envy people with reasonable arches that can work the sandal and sundress combo- I want cute toes at dinner like all the cool kids!!

So this brings me to a pattern I’ve been eyeing for months- Simplicity 2406:

I feel like this dress has reached a McDonalds-like status: “Simplicity2406! Over 1 Billion Served!” Well, if you are going to one of the most visited places on Earth, like Disney World- wear a dress that fits the theme, right?   I adjusted it only slightly- I didn’t have the back open to the waist- I didn’t really see the point of that design detail. A bright quilters cotton brings it down to a more casual note for a night at a resort restaurant, I hope.  I think this will go into the repeat bin, I really enjoyed making it. The construction of the sleeves had a fun twist that gave me some challenge and I liked that. The fun twist for me was when I put them on backwards but I ended up liking the neckline that way, so I left it. This expression is my ‘what was that noise, are those cats destroying things that I love?’  but my dedication to this photo shoot was strong, oh yes. I ignored the noises. Possibly to my own detriment.

Here’s another view- this time I’m ignoring thye dogs. If I had a third picture, I’d ignore my husband in that one. This is my life.

Now I just need some cutesy red sandals and dinner reservations.

I’m think Todd English’s Blue Zoo at the Swan…or is it the Dolphin resort? I’m so ready for a little mouse time.
