I LOVE some animal print- realistic, plushy, foolish, whatevs! Some of my favorite makes of mine and other bloggers have been feline in nature- so I propose that in January we salute this never ceasing trend with a little extra love.
Do you sew wild prints? Do they terrify you? Is the wild kingdom outside of your comfort zone? Come on and push the feral envelope this month and stitch up some cuddly crazy or some sleek beast to be featured as part of this soon to an annual animal thang!
I propose a month of wild guest posts – either the guest or the garment can be wild- your choice! Tons of tiny giveaways and general feral blog mayhem!
This is more festival parade than sewalong- the only requirements are your continued indulgence in my foolishness and a promise to walk on the animal print wild side with a make of your own in a sassy predator print.
Who wants to go on a style safari with me? Lets get the sartorial juices flowing with some celebs strutting in sabertoothed togs:
Lacy prints count too, Dita!
Perhaps more subtle?
Classic menswear?
Presidential?
Or, ill-advised?
Oh, lets not let her ruin our fun! So are you with me? Want to play?
**As soon as I get my minions in gear, a lovely button of the Jungle January poster kitten will be yours for your very own blog- oh, feel the pride burning within as you display this idiocy!

I’m in! Should be fun.
Yay!
You know I will take your challange
For some reason I have not been a animal print person, but I see your point. Putting a animal print into a well thought of garnment can make all the difference. Maybe I even will discover that I like it
Thank you for being such a incouraging and vibrant blogger
Animals can be fun! Im glad you’re on board the ark with us!
You had me at animal print
As God intended! It was Mrs Robinson that clinched it, right?
Purrrrrrrfect.
(sorry, that’s a joke my mom would make… brutal.)
I’m in!! I’m keeping an eye out for a great print and a worthy patern.
A bad pun just means that you are truly on the same page as me! Hurray!
I can’t believe I spelled pattern wrong.
I type 3/4 of the time with a dachshund across my lap and arm- I would never say a thing about anyones posting!
oddly enough i woke up this morning thinking about my leopard print skirt. does that mean i have a problem??
Oh, not a problem…an epiphany of furry proportion!
Ooo! Me, me!! And my daughter, too.. Is it a problem that I share my love of all thing grrrr with my 4 year old? I like to think she has very advanced and sophisticated taste.
You are raising her right!!! Can I hope to see some Mother/Daughter animal ensembles?? Oh please, oh please!
Yes, ma’am, that’s how we roll…
Ooh, sounds like fun!
Oh, do it, do it!
I have the perfect giraffe print faux fur that I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with, I’m thinking crazy jacket.
Oh, thats perfect!!!
Meow…I’m panting already! Other than Paris Hilton’s bizarre outfit, animal prints have always said “I’m a strong woman…deal with it.” Fingers crossed I can get into this in January when the brides leave me alone! Thank you for starting something we may not be able to finish and which may carry through the rest of the year trimming all sorts of things with leftover scraps of faux fur….can’t you just see it?
I think Jungle January could lead right into Feral February or even Maneating March! I was secretly hoping youd get a leopard bridal party….
ha ha…you never know! I wear cheetah ballet slippers on special client days and spend my sewing nights in cheetah pajamas and cozy robe trimmed in cheetah cuffs and collar…anything is possible…you inspire me!
Nothing like cheetah to cozy you up!
I’ve been planning to make some sort of denim jacket thing with some (very obviously faux) leopard fur for like two years now, I’m in if you promise to hold me to it!
I will gladly be your furry enabler!!!
I’m in! It’ll stop me thinking about it and actually take a walk on the wild side!
Animal print can be girlish and lovely- just like you!
I’m in, I have a few animal print projects planned for January.
Excellent!!! I look forward to seeing your lovelies!
I love me a bit of leopard but my January and a chunk of February are basically already written off. Can I just hang out for the vicarious thrills and play later?
Jungle January is in the heart as well as the hands! I insist that you play along in spirit with us, preferrably dressed like Julie Newmar while you read!
Love it – I have plenty of purrfect fabric in my stash waiting to escape – count me in.
Excellent! Any hints about your plans?
I have 2 up my unsewn sleeves. One is a lovely stretch rayon in a wine colour cheetah type print (2 of my favourite things – wine and cats) – this will be a Vogue peplum top.. The other one is a mish mash of animals (don’t you love it when they mix breeds) in an ITY in earthy colours which will be StyleArc’s Creative Cate top and maybe a matching StyleArc Susan skirt – I don’t know – would a matching animal print skirt and top be too much animal????
I am fanning myself! Oh, the ecstacy! The animal print wonderfulness!
I would so like to have some skinny leopard-print pants – would wear black top with them – hmmm – wonder what type of shoes?
Well, the gaudy gal within says red shoes!!!
I think I have this one in the bag…I’m in.
Whoohoo! So pleased!
Sweet! I just picked up a sweater knit that has a feline-like animal print on it, and I probably can’t get to it till January, so this will be purrrfect motivation to get it done then
I’m in!
Excellent! The more the menagerie merrier!
Great idea–however I think that the pix of Jackie-O shows her wearing a coat made of actual leopard skin. ewwwwwwwwwwwww.
Yes, I was hoping it was a fancy faux, but the animals of Hyannis Port probably did get their herd thinned that time…sigh….not my favorite thing either.
great. you sucked me in. sign me up.
Excellent!!!
I just went and bought two, YES -TWO pieces of animal print. It was hard, I have never worn animal print ever, love it on other people, it just doesn’t seem me. But I will produce something from it. Only for you Anne.
My tiny grinchy heart is expanding!!!! I love it! Prepare for close up Ms. desmond!
Ohhh, I’ve been dying to make an animal print muff to keep my hands warm this winter! Count me in… Now I wonder what I could do with my animal print wooden buttons? I kid you not, I really do own animal print buttons.
Animal print buttons??? Now that is what I want in my Christmas stocking!!
This sounds like rip ROARing fun… I do believe I am in too! Maybe some jungle cat leggings or cheetah mini… Hmmmm
All exceptional ideas!! I cant wait to see you redeem animal leggings- adter seeing that hilton mess!
I cannot pass up animal print And, Jackie O looks by far the best. Love a coat like that. I’m in. I need something to get me out of the blahs.
January doldrums call for special looks, dont you think?
Maybe it’s too early to start a fabric fast…I don’t own any animal prints, and I could use some sewing outside of my comfort zone! LOL
Oh do it!! It will be so fun!
I have an unfinished faux fur coat skulking in my wardrobe. It being high summer in the antipodes I may asphyxiate in the attempt to sew it up but I’ll try..
Death by fun fur is considered in the line of duty!
I am so in. (Reptile counts, right?) Looking forward to all these crazy projects!
I say bonus points for reptile!!!
Oh, wow, how fun! I looooooove animal prints!
Any ideas yet?
I went digging through my stash and found leopard-y jerseys, so I’m working something knitty up…
Great! I need knit inspiration, too!
Am very tempted. Should I? If only I can get my slopers sorted and bathroom renovated soon so I can throw myself at this too!
Anyway, I nominated you for an One Lovely Blog Award a couple of days ago and forgot to inform you! Oops. I realize it’s a bit of a chain letter thing that not everyone want to participate in. But as I do enjoy you wisecracking blog, I thought at the very least by nominating you more people might find and get to enjoy your blogs too.
Anyway, should you wish to participate, you can find the One Lovely Blog Award rules and the award badge at my blog: http://overflowingstash.wordpress.com/2012/12/10/and-the-award-goes-to/
Anyway, looking forward to this Jungle Sew Away, whether it’ll be in your midst or from the sideline
Pia
Oh, you are too kind- may I suggest an animal print motif in the bathroom- sort of kill 2 birds with one stylish stone?
Oh, you’re too wild! LOL.
I am thinking of painting some of the wall aqua color. Maybe a few bas relief fishes might not go amiss. But does that count as animal print?
Scales could be considered quite stylish!
I see i’m little late but I think I might just give this a try. No animal print in the tiny stash so this gives me a reason to go shopping
It is never too late! Please consider youself most welcome to the animal faire! Fabric shopping is good for the soul, right?

How did I miss this?! While I have dabbled in some rather “eclectic” prints I have never walked on the wild side. It’s time. BRING ME THE LEOPARD PRINT!
Yes, yes!!! Join my cuddly cult!!
Tempted. Thats all I’m saying.

This sounds really fun – the perfect way to liven up a dull January. I will be keeping my eyes peeled for some suitable fabric and hope to join in.
Fabulous! No animal is excluded- much love for all!
A little late to the party I guess, but I have this nice leopard print fabric in my closet and it really wants to come out. The thing is, animal print is a little out of my comfort zone but I guess this is just the push I needed. Count me in!
You are not too late! Please, play along, the more the merrier!
How on earth did I miss seeing this when you posted it?!?! I’m so in! (Now to go and “shop my stash” to see what I have in the way of animal-related prints…. Hmmmm….)
Yay! Vintage and animal print- you will be stunning!
Oooh, I shall participate in this! And so will the cat. Although he has a bit of a head start. I have to go shopping for my animals prints.
Oh please join up! Lots of room in the jungle!!
Trying to figure out how to “grab” your Jungle January pic and post it on my page….I’m a bit of a newb.
I thought I had it set up right, but its not being nice- I need tech support!
I posted it on my page and linked to the pic, but when you click the pic on my page, nothing happens, it doesn’t go to your page to explain the event. So, it will be kind of like an “inside” club where only people in the know can join.
I like being on the inside.
Aw, Im glad you persevered! I am about to fall on my sword and ask the spousal unit for help!!

I’m in! After only just making my first animal skirt ever I am sold. Just posted on my blog as well, the more ‘animals’ that join the better!!!
Hurray! …and thank you!

I’d know you anywhere!

Count me in!
Ah! You were on my ‘get list’!! Great!
Fabulous. Animal prints can be so fun
You know it!~
Way hey!!! This fits in perfectly with thoughts already pinging around my pea brain…..count me in!!!
Welcome!! A Badger cheetah combo is an excellent mix!
I’m about to start a winter coat; it’s camel wool with a chinchilla faux fur collar and cuffs. Will that count? I don’t want to be thrown out on a technicality!
Baby, you are in! The only rule in the jungle is ‘don’t be the slowest zebra!’

Please count me in ! This sounds wildly exciting!
ooh! I just saw your 8818- so pretty! I’m glad to have you on board!
Oh I’m in! How stinkin’ fab! I shall have to shop (tries to look sad…but is not successful).
Sewists are just huge enablers, arent they? Heehee
Sounds like great fun! Can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with…myself included.
Cheers,
Laura
Stay tuned!
Now it’s January, I can see that I HAVE to be part of this! I found the perfect animal print in my stash. A Japanese dress pattern has been found and I’m on my way…
Excellent!!!
I’m in! Got the perfect print that’s pawing at the ground to become a garment!
Let that garment out to play!
I am in this will help get in gear for 2013 and on way to getting at least one garment a month

Somehow this got lost in my intertubes, but I’m so glad to have found it! I am ALL IN. I picked up a bunch of animal print matte jersey last week, and some stretch lace today. Oh dear god, my poor wardrobe won’t know what hit it.
Every wardrobe needs some felinization- it’s good for what ails it!

HEY! I finally was able to post the Jungle January badge on my blog and have it connect back to your post relating to it!!!!!!! Wow, this took longer than shopping for and buying the animal print, selecting or drafting the pattern and sewing the actual item :] But I is more smartest now.
Yay! It took me far longer than I’d like to admit to make the silly thing!

Oh, I have an animal print that I was planning to make up as a dress! Except we are moving at the end of the month so now I’m not sure I will get to it in January. This is so fun, maybe I can squeeze it in!
Its about fun- I am sure that when you are finished it will still be January somewhere! Welcome to the petting zoo!

Here’s what I had time to do: one measly little purse organizer, in zebra. However, since it is the first animal print I’ve ever sewn, I thought I’d share. I posted it at my blog, craftastherapy.wordpress.com and now I’m going back there to see if I, too, can put the cute puddy-tat there. Bobbins and Whimsey is where I heard of JJ.
Welcome aboard the jungle cruise!!!
Damn…I’m so sorry I missed this and now the month is over. Oh well…I had good reason….MAJOR birthday took center stage for the month! What will you do for February??
Rest! But never fear! Animal prints can strike at any moment!!
I’ve finished my coat with chinchilla collar and cuffs if you want a look!
Ooh! I need to see this!
